ARC AutonomiCap Autonomy through handicap, Handicap through autonomy .Description The central problem of this project is to analyze, through an interdisciplinary approach, in what ways the rise of references to autonomy transforms the objectives and the modalities of the public policies towards the people in situation of disability.
In this perspective, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is an original way of entry. The project is also configured by the identification of two Belgian national scenes, which, together with the CRPD, are the cornerstones of the research: on the one hand, the internment of offenders reached by 'a mental disorder, who escape the criminal system because of their irresponsibility; on the other hand, the federal institution ("Vierge Noire") which grants social benefits to people with disabilities.
